Signs you have a leaking roof

Before we move onto other subjects, let’s review some of the signs of a leaking roof.

Water dripping

Obviously, any water that’s dripping from the ceiling into your living space is a sign that you have a leak, right? But, a leak might not always be that, well, dramatic.

Consider this: water would have to travel through the roofing, into your attic, through the insulation, through the ceiling, and to your floor. By the time that happens, there’s already a lot of water in your home.

Water stains

Beyond dripping water, you should also look for water stains on your walls and ceiling. Strap a headlamp on and head up into your attic and do a quick spot-check for any staining, water dripping, or pools of water.

It’s even a worse idea (if that’s even possible) in the context of possible water damage. A water-damaged roof is a roof that you can quite literally fall through, hurting yourself, others, and your roof.
